Nancy: Life coach skills and life skills have a lovely overlap. So everything that you’re going to learn in Levin Life Coach Academy will not only support you in guiding your clients from where they are to where they want to be. Everything will support you in living an examined life, a life you are fully inhabiting.
One of the big recognitions I had when I was making significant life changes was that I had been living someone else’s life for decades. And it wasn’t until I was really willing to look at myself that I was able to discover the life I wanted to inhabit on my own terms.
And this is the gift I want to offer you, the gift of the examined life, the gift of being able to have a vision of where you wanna go so you can make the choices and take the actions that will get you there. So as we begin to explore what getting life coach ready looks like, some of the elements of being a coach are having empathy and emotional intelligence so that you can connect with your clients and support them effectively.
We also talk about this as having a client oriented mindset or a coaching mindset, and then we wanna look at employing the skill of active listening. I talk about this a lot because it’s so important, especially if you, like I once was, if you’re someone who listens waiting your turn to talk or doesn’t listen because you are calculating what it is you’re going to say. Active listening is essential for coaching. We’re listening to what is being said, what’s not being said, and we are paying attention to nonverbal cues as well.
In addition, we want to attain a non-judgmental attitude. We wanna be agenda free and show up this way for our clients. This is what creates a safe container for coaching. And when we are agenda free, we can show up 100% in service of supporting our clients to move where they wanna go, not where we think they should be going.
This is a really important point and it’s something that also can help us in daily life. Instead of offering unsolicited advice, imagine what would be possible if you started asking questions instead.
One of the biggest misconceptions about coaching is that it is about giving advice. And I’m here to tell you there is no room for advice giving and coaching. The reason it’s so important to remain agenda free and non-judgmental is that even if we are not fully on board with the direction our client wants to go, it’s our job to support the client in getting to their destination. Not by inserting our advice or our suggestions or what we would do if we were them. So part of all of this comes down to knowing ourselves and knowing what coaching is and what coaching is not, really understanding the ethics of coaching.
As coaches, we need to remain curious. We need to remain open to possibility. We need to keep the client’s vision at the forefront. The client’s vision is the roadmap of where we’re moving, and we want to make sure that we are moving forward with action. So there is a healthy amount of commitment and accountability in each coaching session for the client.
And as we establish the coaching ethics and the coaching container, one of the main reasons to be sure that as a coach you get training and certification is that coaching is an unregulated industry. There’s no regulated curriculum. So what happens is there are a lot of people out there who call themselves coaches who are not ethically doing what coaching truly is.So I am a big proponent of getting the training and certification you need so that you have the proven processes, methods to move your clients forward.
Alongside with ethics, come boundaries. We need to maintain professional appropriate boundaries where our clients are concerned. And there is no better place to begin than learning boundaries with yourself because every boundary is between you and you.
First and foremost, you need to know your own limits, you need to know what’s okay and not okay for you. And all of this comes from self-awareness. So I’ve said this before and I’ll share it again in Levin. Life Coach Academy, we begin with Module One with you in the seat of the client because I wanna support you in doing your own healing work, first. You having your own self-inquiry and self-discovery and in order to be ready to do that, you need to be able to make a commitment to living this examined life, to using your own history to illuminate the path forward for others.
So in our Get Life Coach Ready workshop on August 17th, I’m going to take you through a process to ensure that you are in fact life coach ready. Because the benefits of being a life coach are vast.
And as I was saying before, of course, we want to help others. We want to have meaningful work. We want flexibility and autonomy. We wanna see results in ourselves and our clients. We want to experience continuous learning and growth. We want to build meaningful connections and have a positive impact on society. And all of this adds up to a sense of true fulfillment.
One of the things I’ve been so profoundly touched by in Levin Life Coach Academy over the years is the power of our community. We come together and it is chemistry. There is something magical that happens and we join together for the sake of the same goal, the same outcome.
I know people who’ve met their closest and dearest friends inside of Levin Life Coach Academy, and it fills me with awe. So as we’re looking at what you need in order to Get Life Coach Ready, it’s actually quite simple.
Number one is willingness. Willingness to remember that you’re never gonna feel 100% ready for what’s next, and willingness to take action regardless.
One of the things I’ll share is that this decision to become a life coach requires self-reflection, consideration of your skills and your goals. So yes, there’s a passion for helping others. It’s also inherent to have a passion for your own personal development and continuous learning. And again, I wanna point out that while it’s not legally required to obtain training and certification, it will enhance your credibility. It will provide you with essential coaching skills and techniques.
In Levin Life Coach Academy,we provide you with a proven process that I have personally used and all of the certified coaches over the years have used, to support their clients in moving from where they are right now to where they wanna be. Because being a life coach is not only a significant commitment, it’s also a significant responsibility. We are holding space, we are the scaffolding around our clients as they are rebuilding their lives, as they are reinventing themselves. And as I like to talk about reinvention, it is simply returning to the essence of the truth of who we are before we began packaging ourselves to everyone else.
So ready, Life Coach Ready means you are willing to be honest with yourself. You are willing to invest time and attention and energy into developing yourself personally and professionally.
Ultimately, being a life coach is more fulfilling, meaningful, and rewarding than I could ever have imagined. And this is precisely what I want for you.
So if you want to Get Life Coach Ready, join me on August 17th, nancylevin.com/ready. And I am going to take you through a process interactive live, in real time, to ensure that you are ready to become the life coach you wanna be.
I’ll see you then.
