Episode 58: Dealing with the Taboo of Choosing A Childfree Life with Therese Shechter

In this episode...

Today’s guest is Therese Shechter, the award-winning filmmaker and Director, Producer, and Writer of the film, “My So-called Selfish Life: A New Documentary About the Childfree Choice.”

Therese makes a distinction between the childfree life and the childless life. The latter—a woman who wants children but is unable to—is sad. The former—a woman that makes the decision not to have children—is looked down on.

But why does our society still have so much disdain for women who choose not to have children? And more to the point, how should you approach this subject in your life if you’re feeling judged for wanting a child-free life?

In today’s episode, we explore the taboos and trade-offs around living a child-free life, along with some of the ways we can avoid the social pressure to procreate and give ourselves permission to live the life we want.
